About Us

U S and Texas flagsIt is unfortunate that Texas, one of the so-called "Bible Belt" states, is a place that is not only steeped in superstition but also governed by men and women who make our state the laughing stock of the world by calling upon their anachronistic bronze-age beliefs to guide them in the making of public policy. Our past two governors (George W. Bush and Rick Perry) were particularly egregious examples. Our current governor, Greg Abbott, is no improvement. If anything, he is worse. Supported by a majority Conservative legislature, he has already proven himself to be a tyrant as well as the enemy of enlightened thought.

The purpose of The Freethought Press of Texas is to publish books and other items that expose the intellectual dishonesty and dangers of revealed religion while also promoting science and the scientific method, the application of evidence-based rationality and reason, and a humanismistic world view. It is our hope that in time those of our fellow Texans who presently embrace the misguided teachings of the past will read our publications, realize their error, and embrace reality. We further hope that they will then turn Texas into a place where informed, rational citizens support only candidates for public office who are likewise enlightened.

We also support efforts to bring about a stricter separation of church and state than currently practiced in Texas and the United States.

The Freethought Press of Texas was inspired in part by the life and work of the late Arthur Babb, a self-described "heretic" who was born on October 31, 1865 at Fairfield, Texas. It was established in Babb's honor on October 31, 2015, the 150th anniversary of his birth.
